Welcome to my website (http://mrsduffy2ndgrade.weebly.com). This website will be updated every Sunday and will include what my students will be working on in class, student expectations, homework assignments and special events happening at school.
Monday, September 18, 2017-Friday, September 22, 2017 *All Math homework will be part of the Eureka Math program, iReady practice sheets or teacher generated practice sheets. Students will be assigned a few problems to practice what was covered in class that day. The below schedule of homework may change throughout the week. Students are only required to do the circled problems.
Monday-Eureka 2.2 lesson 2 homework pages 7-8 #1-4(a-f) *cm model page 8 Tuesday-Eureka 2.2 lesson 4 homework pages 15-16 #1-3 Wednesday-Eureka 2.2 lesson 5 pages 19-20 #1-3 Thursday-"Comparing ribbons lengths" show and tell all thinking Friday-"Ben vs. Mike's heights" show and tell all thinking
Math-Students will be learning how to estimate in centimeters and meters using models or benchmarks. They will be learning the inverse relationship between the size of a unit and the amount of units needed to measure the same lengths. For example, it would take more centimeters (cm) then meters to measure the length of a wall because centimeters are smaller units than meters. Vocabulary-number bond, ten frame, estimate, centimeter cubes, endpoint, round up, round down, overlap, 1 meter = 100 centimeters, inverse relationships between units. For fluency practice (+,-, + & -) google search that's a fact (Harcourt...) usually first sight. Great practice website where students set their own goals.
Science-Students will be learning how scientists alone and in groups are always investigating new more efficient ways to solve problems. They will be learning about and using the tools scientists use to solve problems. Students will be following the scientific method as they investigate the question, "What is a rock?". Vocabulary-scientists, explore, Science, explore, inquire, problem, question, science notebooks, senses (hear, feel, see, taste, smell), properties, metric system, metric units .
